Frequently Asked Questions

What can you help me with?

Design Comet is built to help your team with all things user-interface and user-experience design. We’ll help you build beautiful interfaces, consider your customers’ experience with your product, and furnish you with professional design assets to land your next pitch. Along with visual design services, we’re here to help you define your market, figure out who your users are, nail your customer alignment, and create a delightful, functional product.

What do you specialize in?

Design Comet is backed by a diverse set of experiences in product design and user interface design. We’re confident that we can bring our expertise to bear on whatever problems you might have for us. Design Comet offers particular competencies in remote sensing, climate-focused work, dashboards and database interfaces, health-tech, social platforms, SaaS, and deep tech.

What size teams do you work with?

This studio is primarily focused on the needs of smaller-scale ventures, startups, and fast-moving teams. We specialize in the zero-to-one stage of design, when teams are moving quickly and need to cut through ambiguity with thoughtful design. However, we’re open to projects and teams of many sizes– if you’re not sure what would be a good fit, just ask!

What types of work are not a good fit?

Due to the added legal burden they pose, we do not work with ventures in defense, robotics, gambling, or adult services. We reserve the right to decline work if it does not fit within our sphere of focus. That said, we love to work with teams across many industries and are eager to hear about your design challenges. If we feel we’re not the best fit for your needs, we will be happy to refer you to other firms that may be better suited.

As a remote-first operation, we do not provide physical prototyping, industrial engineering, or renders. However, we have many talented colleagues in the industry and would be happy to refer you out.

Do I have to meet with you on a call or can everything be asynchronous?

For design subscription services, we require a 30 minute intro call to ensure our services are a good fit for your business. After that, everything cal be asynchronous! While meetings are available upon request, we aim to keep our service low on meetings.

Should I select a design subscription or a strategy session?

A monthly design subscription is best for a team that has complex design needs and is looking for fully fleshed out wireframes and interfaces. Spots are limited and are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Strategy sessions are aimed at helping early-stage teams make critical early decisions. These are great sessions if you need to make important design decisions, but if you need a full design overhaul, we suggest the subscription service.

How long is the subscription?

Each billing cycle of the design subscription service is a month long– there is no requirement for a longer engagement, and you can cancel any time!

How can I expect to receive files?

We primarily work in Figma, which is the industry-standard choice for UX Design. We’ll provide you with ownership over Figma files, along with downloads of Figma files, PNG and JPEG images, videos of prototype click-throughs, clickable prototypes, and any other assets your project might require.

Can I cancel a booked service?

Yes, you may cancel with 24 hours’ notice for a full refund; cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a cancellation fee. We understand that startups have to move quickly, and we’re always happy to work with you at a later time.
